Opening Scripture

Romans 8:28

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

Introduction

Every believer encounters seasons when progress appears to stop. Doors close unexpectedly, prayers seem unanswered, and opportunities disappear. These moments can be discouraging, yet they are often part of God's divine plan.

A roadblock is not always a sign of rejection. Many times, it is God's way of protecting us, redirecting us, preparing us for greater things, or preventing us from making costly mistakes. During life's "half-time," God may pause our journey so that His perfect will can be accomplished in us.

Instead of asking, "Why has God stopped me?" we should ask, "Lord, what are You teaching me in this season?"

Balaam – Numbers 22:8; 25:1; 31:16

Balaam desired to go where God had not permitted him. Although God repeatedly warned him, Balaam allowed greed to influence his decisions. As he travelled, the Angel of the Lord stood in his path, creating a divine roadblock. Balaam's donkey saw what he could not see and refused to move forward until Balaam's eyes were opened.

Although Balaam eventually completed his journey, his disobedience later caused him to counsel the Moabites to entice Israel into sin, leading to great destruction among God's people.

We learn that:

- Sometimes God blocks our path to protect us.

- Spiritual blindness can cause us to resist God's direction.

- Ignoring God's warnings has serious consequences.

- Greed and personal ambition can lead us away from God's perfect will.

- Every divine interruption is an opportunity to repent and obey.

Paul – Acts 16:6

The Apostle Paul planned to preach in Asia. However, the Holy Spirit prevented him from going. Instead of becoming discouraged, Paul remained sensitive to God's leading. Soon afterward, God gave him the Macedonian vision, calling him to Europe where countless lives were transformed.

We learn that:

- God sometimes says "No" because He has prepared something better.

- Closed doors often become gateways to greater opportunities.

- Obedience to the Holy Spirit produces lasting fruit.

- God's direction is always superior to our own plans.

- Delays are often divine redirections.

When You Are at a Roadblock

1. God Has His Own Design

Scripture: 1 John 5:14

• God's will is always perfect.
• His plans are higher than our desires.
• Not every good idea is God's idea.
• Seek God's will before making major decisions.
• Prayer aligns our plans with God's purpose.

2. If God Has Stopped Something, He Has a Better Plan

Scripture: Isaiah 55:8–9

• God's thoughts are higher than ours.
• Closed doors often lead to better opportunities.
• What seems like rejection may be divine redirection.
• God sees what we cannot see.
• Never force a door that God has closed.

3. God Sometimes Allows Roadblocks Because the Timing Is Not Right

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:11

• Every blessing has an appointed season.
• Premature success can become a burden.
• God's delays prepare us for lasting blessings.
• Waiting develops patience and wisdom.
• God's clock is always accurate.

4. God Brings Roadblocks to Protect and Shield Us

• Some disappointments are hidden protection.
• God sees dangers that we cannot see.
• A delayed journey may prevent disaster.
• God's "No" is sometimes His greatest blessing.
• His protection is greater than our understanding.

5. God Allows Roadblocks to Refine and Develop Our Character

• Trials produce spiritual maturity.
• Patience is developed through waiting.
• Character is built before promotion.
• God prepares the vessel before releasing the blessing.
• Strong faith grows through testing.

6. God Allows Roadblocks to Humble Us

• Delays remind us to depend on God.
• Pride prevents spiritual growth.
• Humility attracts God's favour.
• God tests the attitude before increasing responsibility.
• Promotion belongs to the humble.

• Trust God even when nothing makes sense.
• Depend on God's wisdom rather than your own.
• Faith continues even without visible answers.
• God directs those who surrender to Him.

8. At a Roadblock, Learn to Rest, Wait Patiently, and Trust God's Timing

• Continue praying while waiting.
• Remain faithful during delays.
• Keep serving God wholeheartedly.
• Do not abandon your calling.
• God's promises never expire.
• The vision will surely come to pass.

9. Every Roadblock Is an Opportunity for Spiritual Growth

• Difficult seasons strengthen endurance.
• Endurance builds godly character.
• Character produces lasting hope.
• Growth often happens in uncomfortable places.
• God uses challenges to make us stronger.

10. Roadblocks Reveal Who Truly Trusts God

• Faith is proven during delays.
• Quiet confidence demonstrates spiritual maturity.
• Trust God even when prayers seem unanswered.
• God's presence is enough in every season.
• Stillness allows us to hear God's voice.

11. Roadblocks Prepare Us for Greater Responsibility

• Faithfulness in small things leads to greater opportunities.
• God tests stewardship before promotion.
• Preparation always comes before elevation.
• Do not despise seasons of waiting.
• God rewards consistency.

12. Never Give Up Because of a Roadblock

• God's promises remain true.
• Victory belongs to those who endure.
